At least four new power plants are planned for the UK which will burn vegetable oils

Concerns are raised over plans to burn palm oil for energy at proposed power plants in the UK.  The operators of Britain’s first ‘biofuel’ power plants are considering using palm oil, assuring that the burning of vegetable oils is less polluting than fossil fuels. However, environmentalists blame the rise in demand for palm oil for deforestation in South- East Asia and say that the process for certifying ‘sustainably’ sourced palm oil is not yet reliable.  Read more about this story
