After damaging his eye in a childhood shooting incident, Spence’s eye was removed three years ago. He now wants to secretly film people commenting on video surveillance with a tiny camera embedded in a prosthetic eye which will be controlled by the muscles in his eye socket. Permission will be requested from interviewees before their footage is used in the film as they won’t know they are being filmed at the time.

The camera is being provided by a company which specialsies in cameras fitted in mobile phones and endoscopes and will have a wireless transmitter and a battery. Rob hopes to be able to use this new filming method to acheive more of a connection with people during the making of documentary films. Read more
