From Copenhagen to Communism
Climate change article provokes strong views on the political agenda of Copenhagen. Having read the article published by The Independent this morning, I was intrigued to read the strongly voiced comments at the bottom of the page. The article questions the likely-hood of a successful agreement by participating nations at the forthcoming climate change summit in Copenhagen in December. Stating that at stake is “A global deal to cut the carbon dioxide emissions from power generation, industry, transport and deforestation which, all governments now accept, are causing the atmosphere to heat up, with potentially disastrous consequences for all of us”.

The article goes on to discuss the factors which may influence the outcome of the summit including Obama’s healthcare package which could delay a decision on his climate policy; the financial deal offered by developed countries to those developing; agreement on where responsibilities lie and how the action will be divided between nations. It is certainly no easy issue to solve, and it isn’t that we don’t have the technology to solve it. But it isn’t about technology. It’s about politics.
The comments that follow this article were thought provoking, some stating that there are huge payoffs to be made from carbon control measures and there are some people who have and will get rich from this, namely “Al Gore,… George Soros and Jeremy Grantham, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Heinz Foundation and their tame scientists and economists, such as Hansen, Schellnhuber, Stern etc. and the IPCC core group.”
Other comments highlight that “They’ve finally found a way to tax the air that we breathe” claiming that carbon emission targets are another way of taxing “Their efforts to reduce emissions simply means that those who exceed the emissions targets pay more TAX, by any other name”. There was agreement between a few people that this a scam to tax more and play a highly financial orientated game. The same contributor claims that we are being groomed for a Communist state.
Wow, my morning reading seems to be hotting up. Other comments include arguments against Anthropogenic Global Warming, stating that climate models are not accounting for the most influential greenhouse gas – water vapour and we are being sold propaganda.
I don’t know about you but I see that we all walk this planet with a responsibility for our actions and we can only consume so much before we contribute to an irrecoverable decline in finite resources. Propaganda or not, we need to take responsibility for our influence on the planet, which is undeniable however you package it.
