Green Technologies on Buses
Volvo launch the new ‘Hybrid Double-decker Bus’ in London.
Route 141 in London has recently launched a new version of the London ‘Double Decker Bus’. Six Volvo Hybrid Buses have been included among the fleet of London Buses and are assigned to Route 141. Each bus is able to run on a combination of diesel and electricity or either of the two. This means with enough electrical charge the bus can run solely on it’s electrical charge.
Senior Vice President Volvo Buses Europe, Stefan Nordström, says “The continuing trend in ever higher fuel prices means that the payback period on the incremental capital cost of this technology is being further reduced, making investment in hybrid vehicles a viable option for an ever increasing number of cities in Europe and beyond”.
According to Volvo tests have shown significant savings in fuel and carbon emissions but exact figures are yet to be released. In Sweden hybrid single-decked buses have been in use for a while with projected fuel savings of 20-25 percent. In reality the fuel savings were even better. reaching an impressive 30 percent.
