Environmental and social policy

As a business, Back To The Planet understands we have an ethical and social responsibility. Our team is made up of dedicated environmentalists that recycle, compost, switch off the lights and do everything within our means to meet our Environmental and Social Policy. We regularly review the Policy to make our business and the way we operate as sustainable and ethical as possible. Here’s how we make sure Back To The Planet has a big impact and a small footprint:

  1. Adhering to the requirements of environmental legislation set by the British Government(www.netregs.gov.uk/netregs/legislation)
  2. Supporting ethical banking practices - we bank with The Co-operative Bank
    (www.co-operativebank.co.uk)
  3. Continuously seek to improve environmental performance
  4. Reducing pollution and emissions by using public transport where possible and offsetting any essential business flights through The World Land Trust (www.carbonbalanced.org)
  5. Minimising and manage waste responsibly through selective purchasing of products with minimum packaging
  6. Recycling materials where possible including printer cartridges, mobile phones and through buying second hand equipment
  7. Using water and energy efficiently - by using rechargeable batteries and low energy light bulbs
  8. Renewable energy will be supplied to our workspaces by Ecotricity (www.ecotricity.co.uk) by 2012
  9. Minimising the use of harmful chemicals and toxic products
  10. Raising awareness of and encourage participation in action over environmental issues
  11. Purchasing products selectively with emphasis on reduced packaging, sourcing from renewable and sustainable sources and of low environmental impact – all our paper is FSC certified
  12. Employing without discrimination
  13. Supporting other local businesses and taking part in local events to develop strong links with our community network
  14. Supporting our employees to work in a way that suits them and allows a comfortable work-life balance
  15. Calculating our carbon footprint with the Captain Carbon’s Calculator allowing us to measure and keep to a minimum, the carbon emissions of each production
  16. Offering our clients the opportunity to make their production carbon neutral with Climatecare (www.climatecare.org). While offsetting is not the solution, where emissions cannot be eliminated, it helps.
