The Great Western Wacky Bath Tub Race
Picture the scene: wearing typically tight denim shorts for the seventies and sweating under the summer sun, a young Alan Pleass waits in anticipation for the annual Ardur River bath tub race to begin. He can spot neighbours, school friends, the old guy who sits in the park and the local bobby all crowded on the banks of the river waiting for the ridiculously dressed teams to set sail in their garishly decorated bath tub rafts.
It was among the ice creams, picnic blankets and silly hats that Alan’s love for the bath tub race was born. Once he was old enough to compete, Al formed a team with his family and entered the race himself in a cast iron bath tub held afloat by oil drums and a rubber ring for good measure. So much enjoyed was this event that Al, and the whole Back To The Planet team has decided to bring the bath tub race to Bristol!
We therefore would like to introduce to you the Great Western Wacky Bathtub Race, which we are planning to organise for summer 2011! We hope the event will bring together all types of people for some good old summer fun and we aim to raise money for a charity, chosen by the public.
So if you would like to form a team of your own, with your colleagues, friends or family or if you just want to come along and watch you can find updates and more information on The Great Western Wacky Bath Tub Race Facebook Page.
