Charles Darwin Foundation – Paola TV
Paola TV educational short film.
Back To The Planet was commissioned by the Charles Darwin Foundation to make a short film exploring the attitudes of two important groups of people on the Galapagos Islands – scientists and residents. Following collaboration between Back To The Planet, the Charles Darwin Foundation and the Galapagos National Park, Paola TV was developed.
Paola, a local nine year old girl come presenter, ran around the streets using a television screen as a metaphor for communication. The film is made up of a series of vox pop interviews where Paola questions residents of Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz, various NGOs and scientists working at the Charles Darwin station. Each person is asked to give their opinion on the importance of wildlife versus the importance of human needs of the Galapagos Islands.
The aim of the project was to create a film about the Galapageon people and highlight the difference in the understanding of the important issues facing the islands. A range of responses revealed that both groups felt that the needs of residents and those of local wildlife are equally important to the future of this unique group of islands.
“It was great to finally work with a production company whose aim was to produce a film with our main interests at heart. A film for the local people, about the local people.”
